I often find mindless rantings of zionist bloggers when I search for news on Palestine. A recent one was called Why They Stay. It points to the people living is Sderot and says that while some residents have fled the area, the majority of them have stayed and gives reasons. Both of which are utter crap, your life is worth more than the mortgage (maybe being a non-jew this makes more sense to me?).
But why do they stay, why do Israeli’s stay in an area while “fearing for their lives” when 60 years ago we had left under the same (but comparably worse) conditions?
There has always been a rift between the Palestinians who stayed in Israel and those who fled for fear of death. My own family had those who wanted to leave and those who refused to go anywhere. While both now are discriminated against, those who stayed are sometimes in better situations than those who left, this of course excludes those who left to Europe, Australia and North America. We who have left the region are truly in better condition. There was never a radio broadcast telling the residents to leave Palestine, they left because of Deir Yassin.
Deir Yassin was a village of 750 residents (all arab) that had declared its neutrality in 1948. Menachim Begin leading terrorist groups (Irgun and Stern gang) came into the town and reportedly killed 254 residents all of which being women, children and the elderly. That is more than a third of the population. The Israeli government had for years denied that any such thing happened (why would they, Begin was one of their first elected leaders) until finally admitting to a lower number of 101-120 deaths.
A year following the massacre, the settlement of Givat Shaul Beth was built partially over the village, and in 1980, the remaining ruins were bulldozed to make way for another Orthodox settlement, whose streets bear the names of units of the Irgun and Palmach forces that conquered the village. The village cemetery was later bulldozed to build a highway. A mental hospital now stands on the site of the village itself.
The original blogger said that Hamas would not stop at Sderot and they would hop from town to town terrorizing and taking over if they left. I guess the Israelis knew how to do it better. Immediately after the massacre Palestinians feared for their lives, the terrorists were not killing the men, they were killing the women and children, going house to house and taking no prisoners (correction, those who were taken prisoner were shot on the outskirts of town).
The massacre of Deir Yassin happen on April 9th 1948, by November 12 of that same yeah Resolution 194 had passed in the UN stating.
- … that the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible.
Article 11 also instructed the Conciliation Commission:
- … to facilitate the repatriation, resettlement and economic and social rehabilitation of the refugees and the payment of compensation.
Hearing that they could come back and knowing the danger posed by zionist terrorist groups, the people left their small villages. Between Five Hundred Thousand and One Million Palestinians fled for their lives in 1948 alone. Today the number of refugees is at 4 million and article 11 of resolution 194 has never been enforced (Thank you America).
7 people have died in Sderot due to Hamas or anyother group in the past 8 years. More residents of Sderot have died from drunken binges in that time. One third of the residents are not dead and all the women and children walk to the market and walk to school.
