I understand the stress that is being caused by being at a place where you have no idea if your going to come home alive. Still that is no excuse to act in a manner that just defines you as a senseless person especially because one is a “marine” devoted to “protect” this country. A sane person, no matter the situation or place, knows better than to throw a puppy off a cliff. Many people claim that the puppy might have been dead, but a dead dog does not yelp as it is thrown. I do believe that being in Iraq for a certain amount of time, can cause one to react in a way that he/she never would, especially like i said, not knowing if one will return home at all. Let’s not blame just soldiers but the people who are so called in control of this country. Still this “marine” should be disciplined and given punishment suitable for his actions. This, to me, is a sign…..IT IS TIME TO BRING THESE PEOPLE HOME!!!.
First off the puppy looks like its already dead, because it motionless. Even so throwing a dead puppy, is just as bad as throwing a live one, and this is conduct unbecoming of an officer, and he should be court martial. A friend of mine whose name and location I won’t reveal managed to locate this MySpace response from the sack of s**t who tossed the puppy over a cliff to its death.
In my opinion, it just sheds more light on what kind of monster this kid really is!
I KNOW combat is tough, I know his buddies are dying next to him and he lives with fear every day, I know that he’s been trained to be a killer because that’s what the Marines are famous for, but you would think a dog, a PUPPY, would resonate with some memory of home and happier times in more civilized places and that he would have the normal human instinct to protect that connection as best he could.
HE’S having a “really hard day” ?!?! What about the puppy?

Sorry you guys saw that, but it wasn’t supposed to ever been shown. Usually what happens is we shoot them. I was being “creative” that day and decided to throw the dog instead. If i could take it back, I would. Either way, I did the dog a favor. Sorry if you can’t understand that.” AND: “Look, you guys didn’t know that the dog was sick and starving by the road. Motari seems mentally unstable – possibly the result of war. In the video, he seems to be aware of the cruelty of his actions. His fellow marine certainly is. How many people return from war messed up lke this guy? Or was he messed up before the marines?

They tied the dog’s front paws together – so obviously this was part of some cruel ritual and not a spontaneous act of amazing ignorance! The dog was probably immobilized by shock as well as the ligature.

One night in late December, Dennis found the dog in bad shape. It was bitten, stabbed, nearly freezing and close to death. Dennis treated the dog, whom he called Nubs, and slept with him that night to keep him warm.

Marines and soldiers are trained to kill, especially in war.
As atrocious as this act is, it is a fraction of what the US govt has indirectly encouraged these young men and women to do in order to improve their people killing skills.
I am in no way saying what he did is acceptable but I think many who have posted here have taken this footage out of context, with a civilian’s eyes.
Please check out http://www.ivaw.org and see how some of these soldiers who admit to inhumane acts are resisting war and the government. They are calling an immediate end to this ‘occupation’ and are asking for the Iraqi people’s forgiveness. And yes, many of them have severe mental issues in the form of PTSD, resulting from seeing and doing such atrocities. And guess what? The government is refusing to treat them. It’s now clear to them that theyve been used to make some old men rich meanwhile being discarded and left without proper healthcare.
